Art Classes at Four Corners Art Center
in conjunction with the Newport Art Museum
Art classes meet at Four Corners Art Center, 3852 Main Road, Tiverton Four Corners, Tiverton, RI 02878. Classes are limited; to register call Newport Art Museum’s Education Office, (401) 848-2787.
The art classes are funded by the Newport County Fund of the Rhode Island Foundation. The registration fee is $25 and can be waived open request.
Summer 2008 Art Classes
July 7-11
Nature Art (ages 6-9)
Using the wonderful outdoor site of the Four Corners Art Center, children will explore the natural environment and express it in their art. Projects will be inspired by nature and will include on site constructions, printing with plants, paintings of the pond and drawings of insects.
Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noon, July 7-11 (5 days). Denise Zompa, Instructor. Members $120; Non-Members $135.
July 14-18
Build It! (ages 6-9)
Learn about architecture as you create structures using cardboard, newspaper and natural materials. We’ll build animal homes, fairy houses and our own modern art museums.
Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noon, July 14-18 (5 days). Denise Zompa, Instructor. Members $120; Non-Members $135.
Master Artists (ages 10-13)
We’ll look at the work of master artists like Kandinsky, Picasso, O’Keefe, and Duchamp. Learning about the artists’ lives and individual styles will inspire our work. Projects include drawing, painting and sculpture.
Monday-Friday, 1-3 p.m., July 14-18 (5 days). Denise Zompa, Instructor. Members $90; Non-Members $105.
July 21-25
Surf and Turf (ages 6-9)
Paintings of the ocean, three-dimensional sea creatures, lighthouse constructions are some of the art projects that will be created in this five-day workshop.

July 28-August 1
Farm Art (ages 6-9)
Rhode Island Reds, hay rolls, sheep, horses and cows. Children will have fun while drawing, painting and sculpting these themes.

August 4-8
Sea Creatures (ages 6-9)
Real or imagined? Children will paint ocean scenes, make three-dimensional fish and wind chimes of shells and more.

Watercolor Painting (ages 10-13)
Painting mostly outdoors students will explore the art of watercolor painting.

August 11-15
Family Portraits (ages 6-9)
Whether we’re making three-dimensional self-portraits or painting the family tree children will have fun while being creative exploring family as the theme for their art.

Exploring Ideas and Materials (ages 10-13)
Each day a new idea and new medium, whether it’s a series of nature study drawings to compile in a journal, found object sculptures and an outdoor installation. This five-day workshop will inspire each participant to create unique artwork.
