In the beginning there was the heart beat, the dance and the drum.
Last year for National Dance Week, Dancing Spirits danced in the streets of Tiverton and in the DS studio with students and neighbors.
This year amazing Belly Dance artists Blanca and Carmine from NYC will be joining the celebration and teaching a workshop during the day at The Dancing Spirit Studio, 1759, Main Rd. Tiverton.
For the Hafla / show esteemed Charle Khaleel Hallal (and maybe his band) will be joining us for a great evening of music and dance.
Charlie Khaleel, of Lebanese descent, originally from Fall River, Mass., followed his childhood music passion to NYC. During his long career he has played for the most famous Oriental Dance performers such as Serena and Bobby Farrah. He played for Anthony Quinn on Broadway in Zorba. Charlie Khaleel plays dumbeck and oud.
As a modern/ballet dancer it took me a while to feel comfortable about everything Belly Dance. The more I studied , learned , saw, the more wonderful people I met along the way, the more I fell hopelessly in love with this dance world which has made me want to share it with everyone, especially Tiverton and the Sakonnet area.
This poster may intimidate the new Belly Dance student or new drummer or modern and ballet dancers who have never experienced Belly Dance.
Blanca looks and dances like a princess diva but she is a very warm, down to earth, friendly woman who loves to share everything she can about her dance. Her dance roots are in classical training. She can break every movement, nuance and feeling down, easily and clearly. Her approach to Belly Dance is unique as you can see if you visit her website www.blancadance.com
Carmine has graced us with his magical playing here in town twice before. He loves to teach and play. He makes all information fun and accessible. These days it is his full time job, playing around the world. Visit his site to see where he has been is is going next www.carmine.com
We are very lucky to have these star caliber artists sharing their talents in Tiverton.
For those who haven't been to a hafla yet come enjoy the fun!!! There will be great performances, but also for those who want to,you can get up on the dance floor with everyone, performers and audience, dancing together.
The Quaker Meeting House, Tiverton Four Corners' barn where the hafla/ show will be held has a special "days gone by" charm. The simple, rustic structure is a perfect compliment for the ecstatic, exotic colors and rhythms of the "Dance with the Drum".
During the last 8 - 10 years, all over the U.S. and in many countries, in addition to the Middle East (mother countries of the dance culture) Belly Dance (also called Raks Sharqi, Oriental , Middle Eastern Dance, Cabaret) has made a huge comeback evolution. It is the newest rage for " getting in shape, feeling better, looking better and experiencing self expression through movement while reawakening your body. Belly Dance is a way to connect to your dancing spirit and soul .
The art form of Belly Dance is continually evolving and developing new styles and trends. You can see and experience everything I am describing by coming to a class or by seeing and becoming part of a live show.
For both the workshop and the hafla space will be limited. Sign up soon.
Very Sincerely your hostess
Barbara
