Historic Tiverton 4 Corners’ First Annual Labor Day Festivities

Saturday, September 3, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

TIVERTON, R.I. – August 19, 2005 – Celebrate Labor Day with the Tiverton 4 Corners Merchants Association and friends in historic Tiverton! Combining fun, history and shopping in a quaint New England setting is what we do best!

An entire day is planned to celebrate the fruits of one’s labor on September 3, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout Tiverton 4 Corners. Join us for tastings, gourmet foods, craft demonstrations, guided history walks, gift drawings and a village-wide sidewalk sale featuring clothing, kitchen wares, pottery, Jill Rosenwald ceramics, artwork and more.

Two history walks will offer visitors a chance to share in the rich history of Tiverton and Little Compton’s legacy in maritime, farming, architecture and military, as well as the dramatic restoration of Tiverton 4 Corners in the last 30 years.

Artisans will provide demonstrations and discussion of their work, and people can leisurely stroll the village to view outdoor sculpture and historic structures, while enjoying gourmet foods and sidewalk shopping sales.

Tiverton and Little Compton proudly continue to preserve the traditions and spirit of Labor Day with small working family farms, independent mercantiles, craftsmen, and small fishing fleets.

Free parking is available in several areas throughout the village. Brochures with maps are available at all stores.

Scheduled events
12:00 – 4:00: Michael Holland Opening at Gallery 4. The artist will be available to discuss his craft of woodturning - using a lathe or motorized carving tool - and how he designs his acclaimed wooden bowls as functioning art. Gallery 4 is the only local gallery to carry his work and bowls will be available for purchase.

1:00 – 2:00: Guided Historic Walk of Tiverton 4 Corners. Tour includes local history and architecture. The one hour tour starts at the Meetinghouse.

4:30 - All gift drawing winners will be announced at each gift location. Winners have 24 hours to pick up items. No purchase necessary.

About Historic Tiverton 4 Corners and the Merchants Association
Situated in a tiny village listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places, Tiverton 4 Corners is a charming step back in time when life was less harried and attachment to the good earth and open sea was cherished and respected.

The Tiverton 4 Corners Advertising (Merchants) Association was founded in the 1980s and has 15 members. Shops are located in restored buildings dating back to 1700s and 1800s. From Providence -Take 195 East to Route 24 South. Pick up Route 77 South (Exit 5 for Tiverton/Little Compton) into Tiverton Four Corners.

From Newport – Take Route 138 North (East Main Road) or Route 114 (West Main Road) to Route 24 North. Pick up Route 77 South (Exit 5 for Tiverton/Little Compton) into Tiverton Four Corners.

From Boston -Take 93 South to Route 24 South. In Fall River look for Route 195 West.
Pick up Route 24 South and then take Route 77 South (Exit 5 for Tiverton/Little Compton) into Tiverton Four Corners.
